Agricultural engineer, Karen has been working for more than 15 years with the French Development Agency (AFD), in particular, as Project-Team Manager in the "Agriculture - Biodiversity" sector at the AFD headquarters and worked in various AFD agencies in Madagascar, Mozambique, and now in Tunisia, as Head of the Agriculture, Water and Environment division.

Kalemani Jo Mulongoy is the President and Co-Founder of the Institute for enhanced livelihoods. He co-chaired the IPBES regional assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services for Africa and has just completed the summary of the 6th national reports of African countries under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), on behalf of AfDB and WWF. The summary includes an assessment of the progress made to achieve the overall goals of increasing awareness of biodiversity values and integrating them in poverty reduction strategies and national accounting systems. Jo was, for a long time, Head of the Science Division of the CBD Secretariat. He has been a professor, a visiting professor and has led research in several countries.

An ENSAE and Paris I graduate, ex-volunteer in Burkina-Faso, he spent 5 years at the OFCE and 6 years in Bercy (Budget Department). In 2000, he joined the AFD and monitored African economies. He held various operational positions in agencies (Cameroon, Madagascar) and at the Headquarters (responsible for China). Forest-Biodiversity Project Manager since 2014, he runs and oversees projects in Asia (India, Indonesia), the Mediterranean (Turkey, Lebanon), Africa (CAR), Madagascar and the Caribbean (Haiti, CBF). Former Director of the Tri-national de la Sangha (FTNS) Foundation, AFD trainer and speaker for the University of Auvergne. After WAVES, he is in charge of the OSS « REGIONAL COOPERATION FOR NEW ECOSYSTEM NATURAL CAPITAL ACCOUNTING INDICATORS IN AFRICA | COPERNICEA » project in 6 African countries.

Agricultural engineer and Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems specialist, he started his professional career in 1995 at the National Remote Sensing Centre of Tunisia before joining the Ministry of the Environment. He firstly held the position of Sustainable Natural Resources Management expert in charge of Monitoring-Evaluation with the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) in 2003 and then as the Environment Program Coordinator since 2008. In November 2020, he was appointed Executive Secretary by the OSS Executive Board. During the 27 years of his experience, he worked on sustainable natural resources management, the development of observation and environmental monitoring tools as well as the development of climate change mitigation and adaptation programs.
